Dino Spikes Knitting Pattern

After making hats for my daughters, I needed to make something equally cute and easy for my son. Being a beginner, it’s easy to be intimidated by many patterns. SO, here’s the very simple dino spike pattern.

*This is for the spikes ONLY. The beanie hat pattern I use can be found below.*http://www.bevscountrycottage.com/bevsbasichat.html*Please note, there’s probably someone that already has a tutorial just like this posted somewhere. I’m not trying to take credit for their work. I’m just showing the way I figured out how to do it myself.*
What Youll Need:

Size 8 US Needles
(Or size needed to obtain size of spikes you want. Gauge isn’t important here!)

Worsted Weight Yarn
(I’m using Red Heart Super Saver.)

Yarn Needle

What You Need To Know:

KFB (Knit Front Back to increase)
K2Tog (Knit 2 together)
CO (Cast On)
BO (Bind Off)
K (Knit)
P (Purl)

Pattern:

CO 10 sts. Leave a long tail.
Row 1: K
Row 2: P
Row 3: K1, K2Tog, K4, K2Tog, K1 (8 sts)
Row 4: P
Row 5: K1, K2Tog, K2, K2Tog, K1 (6 sts)
Row 6: P
Row 7: K1, K2Tog, K2Tog, K1 (4 sts)
Row 8: P
Row 9: K2Tog, K2Tog (2 sts)Row 10: P
Row 11: K2Tog (1 sts)Row 12: P
Row 13: KFB (2 sts)Row 14: P
Row 15: KFB, KFB (4 sts)Row 16: P
Row 17: K1, KFB, KFB, K1 (6 sts)
Row 18: P
Row 19: K1, KFB, K2, KFB, K1 (8 sts)
Row 20: P
Row 21: K1, KFB, K4, KFB, K1 (10 sts)
Row 22: P

BO all sts, leaving a long tail. You’ll end up with something that looks like a bowtie.

Fold the bowtie in half, stockinette side out. Use the tails to seam the edges around.

Then sew them onto your hat. Make as little or as many as you want. Have fun with it!

  1. This is exactly what I did as teeth for a monster beanie I made a few years back except since they were teeth, I used plastic guitar picks in the middle so they would be sturdy. :x If you ever need to make small spikes or teeth again, guitar picks are the way to go!

  4. Thanks so much for this pattern. My friend is making a dragon scarf for another friend who is part of a dragonboat crew and is very ill at the moment. The spikes are going to work perfectly!!!
